The “Oh My God I’m Getting Married” Diaries- Thoughts from an engaged DJ
Chapter 2- The B Word
You know why weddings generally are a stressful experience? Sure family, friends and selecting things can be part of it, but at the root, the main cause is money!...Or lack thereof! Sure we would all love to have a Hollywood event where we have a 12 piece band with a superstar DJ, having an amazing 12 course meal prepared by a private chief while fireworks explode over the river as you look out from your beautifully decorated room and your wife is wearing a dress made out of diamonds………….no…just me?! Ok maybe this is a little bit embellished but if money was no object I am sure we might all go a little nuts. Reality is a little but more sobering unfortunately. We have mortgages, car repayments, school fees and grocery bills …and then we need to find a way to fund our dream wedding, which leads to the dreaded “B” word…BUDGET! Janelle and I sat down and decided that because we have just bought a house we could get married providing we don’t go over $20,000 and I am determined to keep it under that! Now most weddings in Australia tend to cost an average of $30,000-$35,0000. It is possible to keep it under that of course, but sacrifices need to be made, usually in the way of the venue, food, drink, or entertainment. If you don’t want to pay for alcohol at the reception the cost drops significantly, same if you decide to have it at home as opposed to a venue. If I am going to get married I want to do this right! I have seen plenty of amazing home weddings but we don’t have the space for it and I am not going to skimp on food, booze or entertainment! So now we have our budget, let’s see if I can make it work!
What about you? What was your budget for your wedding and did you manage to keep it under or did you go over? Let me know in the comments below :-)
