It may surprise you, but us DJs don't know that much about makeup! So Komodo Music has brought in a professional- Anita from Anita Carr to give you the 'low down' on choosing makeup for your wedding :-)
Choosing a Makeup Artist (MUA) for your wedding can be quite daunting, especially if you don't wear makeup very often. But don't let the thought of finding a makeup artist overwhelm you, start simple, Google! Start searching for pictures of makeups you like, either on celebrities or other brides and keep them in a file or on your computer. Once you have chosen the ones you like, think about what YOU would like to look like on your wedding day, and then rule out those pictures that may not be suitable. Once you have a pretty good idea of what you are wanting, continue your Google search for local makeup artists. Most makeup artists will have a plethora of pictures of their work for you to browse through and their prices. You'll find that you'll be drawn to one or two, so shoot them an email or give them a call to see if they are available number one, as MUA's can book up 12 months in advance, and number two, to arrange a trial. I highly recommend going for a trial as early as possible to see if you are happy with the MUA's work. The sooner you tick it off your list, the sooner you can get back to the other 10 million things you need to do! If you are unsure of exactly what you are after on your wedding day, the MUA should be able to talk through it with you, and give you some options. You should feel comfortable in expressing your opinions and asking for aspects of your makeup to be changed, as 99% of the time, it is a very small adjustment that makes a world of difference, so speak up if you aren't sure! Also, makeup does settle after 30 minutes, so if you are unsure, go home after the trial, and look at yourself in your own mirror, in your own environment and you may feel differently about the makeup when you are comfortable in familiar surroundings. If you still aren't convinced, go for another trial and make some changes. A couple of tips to ensure you look beautiful on the day face to face, and in the photos that will be hung on your wall forever! 1. Don't wear anything with SPF in it - it makes you look white in photos2. Don't overdo the powder - powder is great in photos, but can look drying in real life, so you need a good balance3. Photos do take a few shades off the depth of colour of your makeup, so if you think your eyes, lips or cheeks look too dark, remember that you do need it a little darker than usual, however you still need to be comfortable, so if you really want it toned down, say so. So don't let finding a MUA scare the hell out of you, do your research and you will be armed to make the perfect choice! Good luck! Anita x
