Wedding Games for your Reception
Throwing of the bouquet and just removing the garter has lost its appeal over the past few years. As such, couples are now wanting to making it “fun” so games are becoming more and more popular.
With some extensive searching and lots of experience, Komodo Music has come up with a compendium of games you can play at your wedding reception:
They are either for the Garter (G) the Bouquet (B) or Both (B & G)
Musical Men (B)All the women (excluding 2) get a guy up. The guys then get into a circle with the men facing outside (all their backs are to eachother). The women stand in front of the guys and the guys get on one knee (as if they are about to propose). The game then is normal musical chairs but when the music stops, the women must be sitting on a guy’s lap. Scavenger Hunt (B & G)This works for both the garter or bouquet (but must be done separately). You get all the men/women on the dance floor and announce “the first __Insert Number__ to bring __ insert item___” and then you keep eliminating till you get to the last 2. It is funny when you announce items such as “handbags, lipstick (that must be put on), pants, shirts, belts, shoes, ties, etc”
Shoe Game (G)
All the guys get onto the dance floor and must remove their left shoe. The bride is seated on the other end of the dance floor. All the shoes are collected into the centre and the guys are asked to turn around. The bridesmaids then mix up the shoes (and possibly hid them in various spots). Then on the DJ’s count, the guys must find his correct shoe and the first to put it on and sit on the bride’s lap will get the garter. Potato and matchbox game (B & G)Guys or girls are given a potato with string which must be wrapped around their waist so the potato is left swinging between their legs. Then with a matchbox in front of them and only using their hips, they must swing the potato to push the matchbox along the floor to the finish line Balloon Stomp (B & G)Your victims are given a balloon which is attached to a piece of string and then tied to their ankle. The object of the game is to be the last one standing who’s balloon is still in tack. This game is fun but should be used with caution as you don’t want guys with shoes stamping on people with heels. Jockey Game (G)Usually after an elimination round of one of the previous games, 4 final guys are given a chair, a jockey hat, a foot pump, a name and a balloon. The pump is put on the chair and the balloon is attached to the hose end. Then on the DJs mark the Jockeys but jump up and down on the pump using their bottoms to blow up the balloon. The first one to pop the balloon gets the garter. Ping Pong Game (Not Dirty) (B)All the girls select a guy and bring them onto the dance floor. They are then given a ping pong ball and they must proceed to get the ball from one side of the guy’s trousers to the other. This can be a lot of fun but ensure your crowd is not too conservative otherwise people may take offense Where Will They Kiss? (B & G)This wedding game is an easy way to get a lot of guests involved with minimal effort from them. All they need to do is peel and stick!Enlarge full body photos of the bride and groom or draw a cartoon version of the married couple. Using stickers with hearts or kisses, number each one and its backing. The goal for the guests: where does the bride and groom want their first kiss as a married couple to be?Have the newlyweds write their answers down on a secret piece of paper. Encourage guests to approach the photos and place their stickers wherever they please. You can imagine the possibilities of where the kisses may end up, especially given all the choices! The guest whose sticker is closest to the answers from the newlyweds wins a prize.At the end of all that, make sure to have the bride and groom demonstrate their answers! Play That Tune (B & G)This is a great game for smaller intimate wedding receptions where many of the guests are familiar with one another. Before the wedding day, create short song clips using favourite tunes enjoyed by the bride and groom.Round up a group of guests and divide them into two teams. One member from each team will have a "play that tune" face off. First one to recognize the song can shout out the answer. The winner of each round proceeds to the back of the line and continues to play. Others, less fortunate, sweeten their departure from the game, with a sweet gift of candies wrapped in cellophane. Final winner receives a grand prize! Marriage Advice 101 (B & G)This is a great game to play at a small wedding reception with close friends and family. Raise the laughometer with this simple yet fun game of "Marriage Advice 101".Provide guests at each reception table with index cards and pens. Their task: to come up with the best marriage advice they can give for the newlyweds. Read out some of the highlights during the night. Award gifts for "The funniest advice given", "The best advice given", and any other category you can think of.
